Sir Maxwell Braveheart Society

Sir Maxwell Braveheart, an elderly beagle mix with significant injuries, came to our shelter in need of emergency medical care. While his needs may have been considered a liability at another shelter, we provided him with the care that he deserved and nursed him back to health. In return, he provided our shelter employees and visitors with daily cheer and love and became the shelter mascot. Until he died, Sir Maxwell embodied our shelter's spirit and purpose. This society is our way of honoring his persevering, friendly tail wag.

As Sir Maxwell's case shows, all animals deserve a chance at health and happiness. We are much more than just an adoption center. While finding homes for each of our friends is an important aspect of our mission, it is not the only one. They may need a little extra help getting to a point where we can find them that new, happy home. As such, this society will help us go beyond the day-to-day shelter activities and allow us to further other aspects of our mission, including:

Treatment and Rehabilitation: We provide lifesaving medical care and surgery for all treatable animals that come to us. Dogs and cats with behavioral issues are rehabilitated and later placed in new homes. We also provide 24-hour emergency care for sick and injured strays.

Protection and Prevention: We investigate cases of cruelty and rescue animals in the community. These activities are not limited solely to domesticated animals but also apply to all animals in need of protection.

Major gifts allow us to provide necessary medical attention to animals such as Sir Maxwell; they also enable us to actively investigate cases of alleged animal cruelty and provide immediate relief to its victims. Your gift will allow us to not only support current programs, but to create new ones.

We invite you to become a part of this distinguished effort. As a member of the Sir Maxwell Braveheart Society you will provide immediate relief to the animals that we save and assist us in saving even more. You will become a member of a compassionate group of citizens who are taking the lead in saving and enriching the lives of the animals right here in Tompkins County.

The Sir Maxwell Braveheart Society is composed of three giving levels:

Founding Members

Charter Members: $1,000 and more in annual gifts

Sustaining Members: $500 to $999 in annual gifts

Thank you for considering a gift to the SPCA of Tompkins County!

Ginger and Buster

"We brought Ginger cat (formerly Nutmeg) home from the Petsmart adoption center 5 years ago, her companion is Buster (formerly Rocco) who celebrates one year today since we brought him home from the SPCA. Buster was recovering from heart-worm and had just been treated at the SPCA when we brought him home. We are pleased to report he has made a full recovery and is heart-worm free - and obviously, quite comfortable here at home!! Our heartfelt thanks for all you do to help these animals find their forever homes. We are very grateful... "
