About Volunteering
As an SPCA volunteer, you are important to us!
Volunteers help the shelter run smoothly, increase adoptions by being knowledgeable and friendly, and make our animals more comfortable and happier. Volunteering is important for the organization, the animals and the individual.
There are a world of opportunities for you to use your special skills to help homeless animals in our community. While we always need volunteers to help care for our shelter dogs, cats, and bunnies, we also need people to answer phones at the adoption desk, assist with maintenance and carpentry projects, monitor and greet guests at the shelter, counsel potential adopters and help with special events and creative projects like our float for the Ithaca Festival parade.
If you love animals and can give us one shift per week, we can promise you good feelings and fun. We strive to make the volunteer experience as useful as possible. Please look at the other volunteering pages on this site for more information.

Stories
"About 3 years ago I came to your shelter because my niece told me you had a lot of cats rescued from Hurricane Katrina. But I fell for a cat you had there by the name of Georgia. She is so spoiled. I love her and everyone she comes in touch with does also. She brings me great joy. I love her so much and if I should ever adopt another animal it will be from your fine establishment."
-Frank and Georgia
