Every Nose Counts!

As Dr. Jan Scarlett would say, “Every Nose Counts”! Since 1999 the SPCA of Tompkins County has been collecting and sharing data and statistics on our animals. We use them to make their stay more enjoyable, reduce the incidence of disease, track their length of stay, and as a tool to gage how the demographic of the shelter animal has changed over time. One of the first steps in becoming a no-kill, or “adoption guarantee” shelter is the adoption of metrics and standards to meet the needs of the animals in our care. One of those tools is a Pet Evaluation Matrix.
